About

Tinkerfarm is the collection of maker learning stuff from Bill Ball, with a focus on digital design, fabrication, and learning.

If you are interested in my work on the civic health of metropolitan areas and community engagement please check out my Linkedin profile at https://www.linkedin.com/in/williamjball/

Either way I can be contacted at bill@tinkerfarm.net.

Growing up in my father’s and grandfather’s wood shop I was always going to be a tinkerer. Although I was mostly known for “decommissioning” my toys (usually with a hammer) to see how they worked, and got a C in house wiring in Junior High metal shop, I eventually figured out how make stuff that actually functions. Ok a bit of smoke still comes out once in a while.

Meanwhile I earned a Ph.D. in Political Science and enjoyed a career as a tenured Poli Sci professor. Now I am extending my professional experience in the classroom with my hobby passion for working with digital design and fabrication.

This site contains a mix of projects with complete instructions and less fully documented work meant to spur other ideas. It is also a repository of materials for courses and workshops that I teach; and generally my additional career as a mentor of makers.

Feel free to make use of whatever you find. Anything I created on this site is Creative Commons Noncommercial unless otherwise specified.

My professional credentials can be found on Linkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/in/williamjball/.  Linkedin is the only form of social media that I monitor. The best way to reach me is email to: bill@tinkerfarm.net.

A small ugly hat the consistency of fruit leather but which smells strongly of stale vinegar. I grew it from a vat of bacteria. I think my career in bio-hacking with be short lived :)
